When it comes to recreation, there is no substitute for hiking and outdoor sports. Allowing people to experience the great outdoors, there is nothing quite like experiencing nature in all of its glory. However, mother nature can be a fickle mistress and it can be dangerous exploring the outdoors. This is why it is important to stay safe and know what you are doing before venturing out into the wilderness.
The first thing to consider is planning. Luckily, every area that is worth going to, even the most remote areas have been charted and are often reviewed. A quick internet search will turn up a number of reviews as well as tips regarding what to expect as far as topography, wildlife, and virtually anything else you need to know in order to remain safe. Safety involves coming prepared, so make sure you know what you are going to bring.
The right supplies
At very least, you will likely need some sort of insect repellent in addition to food and shelter. Insects are abundant in the woods, and there are some that can be very harmful to humans. Bug spray may seem like an obvious choice, but it is amazing how many people do not think to bring it. Furthermore, depending on the area in which you are camping, you will want to know what type to get. There is essentially deep wood repellent that is stronger than the normal stuff. Lastly you will want to bring plenty of water, don’t forget to bring it and stay hydrated!
